Open Swiss systemHow do you plan a single elimination tournament bracket?
A single elimination bracket is a practical choice when an event needs a clear path to one winner and teams have limited time for matches. Each result removes one team and advances another, so a tournament with 16 teams takes four rounds to reach a champion. If you want every participant to play every other participant, choose a round robin schedule instead; it takes more games but ranks teams across the full event rather than ending a team’s run after one loss.
Before generating a bracket, decide whether your list is already seeded. Keeping the pasted order makes the first team seed 1; shuffling gives you a random order. For team counts such as 6, 10, or 20, the bracket includes byes to fit a complete elimination tree. A 10-team bracket has 9 matches in total and 6 first-round byes. Check the displayed rounds and byes before play so organizers can plan match slots, courts, or tables around the number of games.
During the event, choose one person to enter official results and share the view-only link with everyone else. This avoids conflicting edits while players check the live bracket from their phones. Print or export a copy when you need a noticeboard version, and remember that an unshared bracket is stored in the current browser. If browser data is cleared, a local bracket may be lost, so keep an exported copy for records that must be retained after the event.

Questions
How are byes decided?
When the number of teams isn’t a power of two, the top seeds skip the first round. With 6 teams, seeds 1 and 2 get byes into the semifinals.
Can I change a result after entering it?
Yes. Edit any score and the matches that depended on it reset, so the bracket always stays consistent.
How do players follow the bracket?
Tap Share live link to get a view-only link and QR code. Anyone with the link sees results as you enter them — no app, no account.
Can I print the bracket?
Yes. Print or save a PDF on A4 or Letter, or download a PNG to post in your group chat.
Is it really free?
Yes. The available tools are free: single elimination brackets support 2 to 128 teams, and round robin schedules support 2 to 32. Double elimination and Swiss formats are not available yet. Live links stay active for 90 days after the last visit.
Can I add a 3rd place match?
Yes. Tick “Add a 3rd place match” before you generate the bracket. The two semifinal losers meet as soon as both semifinals have a result.
Where are my brackets saved?
In this browser, on this device. There is no account, and a bracket stays on your device until you share a live link. Clearing your browser data removes saved brackets, so print one or download a PNG if you want a copy.
How many teams can I put in a tournament bracket?
The bracket maker accepts 2 to 128 teams. If your list has a number that is not a power of two, such as 6, 10, or 20, the bracket includes first-round byes so the remaining matches lead cleanly to a final. You can see the number of rounds and byes before generating, which helps you check the event format before play begins.
How does a single elimination bracket work?
In a single elimination tournament, a team leaves the bracket after one loss and each winner advances to the next round. Keep your pasted team order to use it as seeding, or shuffle the list for random seeding. The bracket maker lays out the rounds and updates later matchups when you record a winner, so you do not have to redraw the tournament after every game.
How many matches are in a single elimination tournament?
A single elimination tournament with n teams needs n − 1 matches to produce one champion, regardless of how many byes are needed in the first round. For example, an eight-team bracket has seven matches across three rounds. The number of rounds is based on the next power of two, while byes let a non-power-of-two team count fit that bracket shape.
