Fixed team vs. rotating partner round robin

Pickleball round robins run in two different formats, and the biggest source of confusion is not knowing which one your event is using. In a fixed-team round robin, you pick a partner before play starts and stay with them the whole event: your team plays every other team once, exactly like a standard round robin, and you track wins and losses as a pair. In a rotating-partner round robin, everyone signs up as an individual and gets a new partner each round; the generator assigns courts and partners automatically, and standings track each player's own wins, not a fixed team's.

This generator supports both: pick "Fixed teams" and enter one team per line (for example "Ann / Ben" for a pair that plays together all event), or pick "Rotating partners" and enter individual player names. For rotating partners, the schedule avoids repeat partnerships whenever the number of players and rounds allow it — 8 players over 7 rounds, for example, pairs you with a new partner every single round — and always spreads opponents out as evenly as it can. Either way, set how many courts you have and the generator lays out every round so nobody's court assignment overlaps and rest turns rotate evenly among whoever is sitting out.

Once the schedule is generated, tap any court to enter both scores; the standings table updates immediately, ranked by wins, then point difference. Switch to big screen mode to show the current round's court assignments and a live standings table on a TV at the venue, or print the schedule for a check-in table.

How it works

  1. 01

    Choose your format

Pick Fixed teams (one team per line, e.g. "Ann / Ben") or Rotating partners (one player per line), then set your courts and rounds.

  2. 02

    Generate the court schedule

Click Generate to lay out every round across your courts. Rotating partners avoid repeats where the numbers allow it; anyone not playing that round is listed as sitting out.

  3. 03

    Enter scores as you play

Tap a court to enter both scores. Standings recalculate instantly, ranked by wins and point difference.

Pickleball round robin FAQ

What is round robin in pickleball?

A round robin schedules matches so every player or team faces several others across a series of rounds, rather than being knocked out after one loss. Pickleball round robins come in two flavors — fixed teams, where you keep the same partner all event, and rotating partners, where you get a new partner each round.

What is the difference between fixed-team and rotating-partner round robin?

In a fixed-team round robin, your team (usually a pair) stays together for the whole event and plays every other team once. In a rotating-partner round robin, you sign up as an individual and are paired with a different partner each round, so standings track your own wins across all your partners rather than one fixed team's record.

How many games will I play in a pickleball round robin?

It depends on the number of players or teams, the number of courts, and (for rotating partners) how many rounds you choose. The tool shows a live summary — rounds, total matches, and the range of games each player is scheduled for — as soon as you generate the schedule.

Can I run a round robin on 2 courts?

Yes. Set the number of courts to match what you have available (1 to 12); the generator fits as many matches as possible into each round and rotates who sits out evenly when there are more players than court space.
